Excellent breakfast. Food in main restaurant not to our taste. Would however prefer new potatoes & choice of fish and more than 1 vegetable.
This fine, friendly and efficient hotel is your island address on the doorstep of town, walking distance from the picturesque harbour capital of St Peter Port.
Elegant and classical, this award-winning 5-star hotel is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the Channel Islands, with a top restaurant, an excellent location and a relaxing spa.

Not as good as I thought it would be. Most of the restaurants are generic with low quality food. The exceptions are The Ship and Crown and another one a little further along whose name I have forgotten but which serves Michelin Star quality food. The bus service to the rest of the island is excellent and the drivers are like tourist guides. They are so friendly and helpful. Personally, buses are the best way to get around Guernsey. Bikes are OK, but definitely not car. Shops and cafes are a bit basic. The best thing about Guernsey by far is the south coast which should be discovered by taking the bus to the start (or halfway) and walking the rest of the way. Many of the secluded beaches and bays can only be reached by foot and one only has ladder access. Stunning scenery at every turn.

St Peter Port is lovely lively as long as you can cope with the steep slopes. Plenty of fish restaurants , we ate at Pier 17 and several smaller cafes . Lots of history to take in ,the local people are very friendly. An excellent bus service. The Millennium tapestry is fascinating and there is the castle too. We were lucky enough to be there for liberation day ,A public holiday with a parade through the town and a service of remembrance.... A colourful fun relaxed day with everyone enjoying a public holiday.

Plenty of small independent shops, interesting lanes and alleys. Constant activity in the extensive harbour. A range of eateries all along the esplanade with great views., picked a different ones night. Everything easily accessible on foot (if you don't mind hills and cobbles!).
Too much scaffolding and major building work: maybe finished by summer?

Nothing was too much trouble polite courteous staff.
Nothing was too much trouble polite courteous staff. Perfect in every way so much so I extended my stay over New Year. Unfortunately didn’t have a mobility room, wet room, but agreed for me to use the pool disabled facilities for which I was most grateful.
In fact the staff were so welcoming I felt like royalty.
The breakfast buffet was 1st class with so many options. I did have the full English breakfast one day only as the food wasn’t as hot as it should have been so ordered of the specials menu.
I enjoyed my stay a lot. The hotel has been a hotel since the 1800’s (cool). The hotel is charming, comfy, the grounds and garden area are awesome (and have a pool and hottub outdoors), the breakfast is great, the staff is lovely. Don’t expect a 5 star hotel, but this has a lot more personality. As well, even though it’s not in downtown (and therefore is way more affordable) the bus is right outside and comes every few minutes so it’s super easy to get around without a car. I would define stay here again and recommend.
Cost, location, hot water heater for tea/coffee, breakfast baskets, Information binder, area resource information (Tours, things to do in and around the area, bus schedules), ease of getting to bus stop, and most of all the friendly morning staff. I also liked that other guests respected the need to be quiet in the evenings. Rather than a hotel or guest house it felt more like a dorm room…one can hear everyone coming and going and even talking in their rooms. I was out a lot so It met my needs for a place to rest.
Le Chene is an easy ten minute walk from the airport which made it so convenient. it's also on the main bus route - the stops are right outside so we could get a bus to St Peter Port or around the island - the owner kindly gave us a Puffin Pass so that made it even easier. Our room was small but comfortable with everything we needed for our stay. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. Altogether an excellent hotel.
There was a bus stop very close to the hotel. We could, therefore, easily hop onto a bus into to St Peter Port. There was loads of cupboard space in the room, with an iron and ironing board - very convenient. The hotel had a limited food menu and wine menu, but it was sufficient for the week that we spent at the hotel. Breakfast was always a treat with a great selection of food and juices to choose from.
I have been staying at this hotel since 1976 so have seen the improvements over the years. However, with this current heatwave and although fans were provided in the bedrooms, would the management review if at night, there were any upper floor fire exits that could be opened to allow some cooler night air through the bedroom corridors - thank you.
Good location, clean and comfortable. I booked it because it was much cheaper than the other hotels for that day and was expecting it to be quite run down and needing updating, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The breakfast basket was very cute with 2 crossiants, butter, jam, 2 packets of cereal and 2 yogurts.
The hotel is really well situated for access into the centre of St Peter Port. The room was very comfortable and the shower room was very good. All the hotel staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast was good with a choice of dishes. The food in the Pickled Pig bar/restaurant was also very good.
we wanted a hotel outside the city where we could do some hikes and walks. the location was perfect! in a residential area, very quiet and beautiful with views of other islands and the channel
also the local bus stops just outside so very convenient for moving around the island
The hotel was very relaxed, staff were friendly and helpful and the health suite was well equipped with a lovely pool. We felt relaxed in the coffee/bar area and the gardens were lovely to walk around or just to sit in and relax. We would definitely stay again.
Location - just 10 minutes walk from main St Peter Port area. A bit of a climb on the way back to hotel though.
Price - budget end for Guernsey.
Staff were pleasant.
Room had a part seaview and could see Castle Cornet if I stuck my head out of the window.
Pick you room wisly and you can get a room with a fantastic view not obtainable in any other hotel on the Island. The locaiton is an easy but steep walk to the harbor and is perfect for thoese whishing to book excersions to the other Channel Islands
Excellent small hotel. Friendly staff, good breakfast, comfortable room. Easy 15 minute walk to St Peter Port centre. Fascinating history being the building that housed the German Naval Command during the island's occupation.
